Ruth’s House, part of the Cedarhurst family of assisted living and memory care centers, reviewed their energy usage and its impact on their newly renovated memory care facility. They enlisted the services of BRiC Partnership to conduct an energy audit and submit recommendations to improve energy efficiency and maintain environmental comfort. Their findings resulted in retro fitting the energy recovery air handling unit and changing the air delivery from constant volume to variable volume.
Impact Strategies, the general contractor, selected the team of Controlco, Langhauser Sheet Metal and Pfeffer Electric, to perform the retrofit. Controlco utilized the existing Johnson Controls Metasys FEC controllers and with new control strategies to incorporate economizer and variable air volume control at the air handling unit. The air handling unit required sheet metal modifications to accommodate a new economizer as well as the replacement of the motor starters with Johnson Controls Series II Variable Frequency Drives. 39 air terminals were re-programmed for variable air volume operation.
